OT: Only 3% Of Japanese Youths Have Computers Tuesday, October 31, 2000 TOKYO (Nikkei)--A relatively small share of young people in Japan have their own personal computers, according to survey results of Japan Entertainment Network KK, which operates a satellite cartoon channel.
The survey, carried out in October through December 1999, targeted 7,752 persons from seven to 18 years of age in 14 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region, including South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia.
Only 3% of those surveyed in Japan have their own PCs, placing the country 10th on the list. South Korea was in first place at 33% and Singapore was in second place at 20%.
On the other hand, 20% of youths in Japan have their own mobile telephones, placing the country second on the list behind Hong Kong, where the share was 25%.
Mobile phone ownership in Japan was particularly high among those in the age range of 16-18 years, where the share was 56%, the highest of the countries and regions surveyed.
