Edwin, I have trouble believing this. Regular shorting does not change the supply of stock. You borrow my shares and sell them. No change
in total number of existing shares. I have no shares, because I lent them to you. You have no shares because you sold them. The buyer has the shares.
Are the RedHot people saying MMs sell stock without borrowing it from somebody? Why would anyone pay them? The MMs can't deliver.

Yes, that should be illegal, if it exists.
I also think those of us who have stock in street name should be able to tell our broker that we don't want it used for shorting.
