If I understand it correctly they had planned on doing step outs from the first vertical breccia intersection. Possibly they stepped out to far the first time so had a dud then moved in a little closer and hit.
As to weither it is a pipe or not I understand they feel it is but are not a 100% certain yet as they havent found where it comes to surface.
From the looks of it these kimberlites arent very magnetic so with the deep penetrating EM they are trying to get an idea of its shape. This may or may not work depending on its conductivity. I know some companies have tried seismic for the same reason. Who knows they may try that next.
Its going to take a bit of drilling to define this puppy or kimberlite mass. It had to come from somewhere and if it high volitile kimberlite it had to come to surface somewhere. So time will tell.
When they do the detail logging of the core they might get a better idea and after the EM I wouldnt be surprized to see some more holes drilled particularly if diamonds keep falling out of the core.
