Excerpts from last night's WCBS News:

"WCBS 10/30/00 - 11:17 PM... hollywood imagination. It's real life, only in this version as a potential lifesaver. >> What if you could locate a loved one, monitor their physical well-being. >> Reporter: At an unveiling, five digital solutions provided a fashy firsthand look at digital angel. >> Digital angel. >> Reporter: The size of a watch and worn close to the body, digital angel combines biosensors and gps location tracking systems to find someone when they're in trouble, like a human lowjack. It even monitors vital signs, though in disaster or illness strikes the message gets out. The technology is highly sophisticated version of what's being used by the mta to track new york city buses. Applied digital says the device has a wide range of uses. It could replace ankle bracelets that have limited range. But critics worry about more ominous uses. >> It has the potential for a society where big brother is watching you. >> Reporter: Christian groups oppose the so-called human chip on religious ground but the company insists no one...

WCBS 10/30/00 - 11:18 PM... watching you. >> Reporter: Christian groups oppose the so-called human chip on religious ground but the company insists no one will be forced to wear the device. >> We don't inject people, we don't implant, so you can take it off you don't like it. >> Reporter: Digital angel has even caught the attention of the u.S. Government. The company says it could protect soldiers. Applied digital hopes to transform this board into a dime sized chip in 12 to 18 months. Users could log onto a secure site and retrieve information about a chip wearer. Former police captain steven davis who now runs a security firm says the device could prove valuable in cases of kidnapping. He, too, has concerns that police technology should not be stopped because of possible misuse. >> Since the internet as you often see is used for illegal purposes does not mean we should curtail the use of it, no. >> Reporter: There are already chips used to improve brain function. Now digital angel hopes to cash in on the endless quest...

WCBS 10/30/00 - 11:19 PM... We should point out the maker recently merged with another company that manufactures implanted chips for animals. That has fueled concerns that the so-called human chip could be offered as an implantable device in the future. Tonight company representatives insisted that is not where digital angel is headed, however they would not rule out the possibility entirely. >> Paul, thank you. >>> David, you could practically freeze your chips off out there tonight. >> A little cold out there. As a matter of fact, some areas even reporting some snow showers out there. We're certainly going to be watching that as that low pressure center continues to spin around out there. There's the twin towers there. A lot of clouds and we're still under the influence of that area of low pressure that's pulling in some of the colder air. As we mentioned, some areas picking up some rain and snow showers. Right now at central park, it's a chilly one. We have temperatures right around 42 degrees, winds out of the northwest at 11, gusting to 19,....
"

I might add that the news cast included a small part of the actual presentation and it was quite impressive.
