WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Charles Schwab & Co. filed preliminary
documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission to register 15
million shares of its common stock for use in future acquisitions.

The San Francisco-based online discount broker
said in a regulatory filing that it would issue the
shares from time to time for potential business
combinations.

"We intend to concentrate our acquisitions in
areas related to or that would complement or
expand our current business," Schwab said in the filing.

The company had more than 1.41 billion weighted average common
shares outstanding on a fully diluted basis in the quarter ended Sept. 30.
