MS Open Source Inevitable??
Could these recent security problems simply be preparing us for the inevitable??
Microsoft has to regain the higher ground over Linux.
The inevitable has to happen: open up the source code.
Bill's .NET vision HAS to be interoperable.
Proprietary ANYTHING represents FRICTION.
All friction will be eliminated.
Competition is over.
There will only be ONE thing to embrace: RISK.
The technology landscape is being transformed away from a business model approach towards a service model approach.
Driving goal of business models: money.
Driving goal of service models: trust.
Isn't ALL money just a proxy for trust anyway?
Think of it this way.
Technology will open up to allow more and more INDIVIDUALS to find/meet/help and SERVE ME.
To date technology has been closed for it's positioned to attract/label/define/restrict/measure/count and claim ownership over INDIVIDUALS, their money, interests, data, information, profiles, etc.
I call the bandwidth that supports this Old technology development approach DUMB.
I call the bandwidth that supports this New technology development approach SMART.
Gates' .NET vision will essentially catalylize/revolutionize and speed up the forces of technological change which will shape this new way of perceiving the world.
The more I look into this and understand what Gates is thinking the more I realize he's perhaps made this GIANT leap of faith which will eventually reveal his willingness to:
- split up MS
- give away MS source code
- interoperate openly with everything/everywhere/everytime
Lastly, there's only ONE real competitor to the SERVICE model: governments.
For if Gates IS taking this leap of faith then .NET really represents FREEDOM of the INDIVIDUAL to embrace this last frontier through this single sliver porthole of light through which we all have to fail and stumble to find our way through.
Light = Energy = Service = Love
The REAL Internet can only be supported by a massively transforming vision that is framed by ONE purpose: FREEDOM of the INDIVIDUAL.
To date, all the technologies, systems, combines, businesses, governments have been supported by models which naturally derrogate the energy and freedom of individuals to some controlling power or force - whether had an economic, social political basis or combination thereof.
Bottom line: .NET is like a genie that far out of the bottle.
All that's left is for Gates to get his split and make some form of apology which will no doubt help blast MS into this new era with even greater speed.
All this is speculation. I realize that tigers don't change their stripes very easily, but I view these forces as bringing on the inevitable. Either Gates "get it" or MS is TOAST.
