IBM started using ECC memory in the 1970s for this very reason Yes, and I should well know that, having designed the ECC logic in an IBM competitor machine, also in the 70s. Amazing how Sun ignores proven, necessary reliability features like this. What is the saying, those that ignore history will have it come back to haunt them. Tony
