According to this report (http://www.ctech.com.tw/d-news/news/biz/89103109.asp), AMD will release its mobile Athlon and Duron variants before the end of the year, with backing from all of the top five Taiwanese notebook manufacturers. The mobile Duron will make its debut at 650 MHz before the year is out, with the mobile Athlon following closely behind for an introduction early next year. Apparently, AMD is working on Athlon-variants consuming as little as 3W, with hopes to cut that figure somewhat with the help of Transmeta. As you may recall, an alliance between these two companies was rumored (http://www.aceshardware.com/Spades/read_news.php?post_id=10000250) a while back, and it's possible that this cooperation is what's behind that reported alliance.

Speaking of Transmeta, this report (http://www.ctech.com.tw/d-news/news/media/89103109.asp) indicates IBM has cancelled plans for its Transmeta-based notebooks. Unfortunately, no details were given.

Thanks to KH for the links.

Now this would be good news if true. Last thing I recall was that the mobile ponies were delayed into Q1/01 (Q3 CC), right?
