Gottfried, RE: "...writing covered calls and buying protective puts is all I can do in my Schwab IRA." If you are not allowed to Buy and then Sell Calls and Puts including LEAPs and you want to do them, why not Re-Apply to include those trading capabilities? You see, if you select "Income" as Objective --- you are allowed to Write only Covered calls; but if you select "Speculation" as objective --- you will be considered for approval for most of the Options capabilites including Index options ans Spreads.
