"Rational logic to me is the opposite. If I like a stock and am confident in its prospects, it makes me happy when the price goes down. I can buy more cheaper. When a stock a like goes up, on the other hand, it is much more stressful, particularly as the stock approaches an area where it should be sold." Actually that is the lesson I have learned as well. The problem is the price points to buy on the way down and sell on the way up. Particularly tough for a buy and holder like myself.
