"The agreement....is expected to enable ViaSat to offer value-added broadband service to its existing and planned VSAT customers and through expanded sales channels developed jointly with Astrolink."

Since ViaSat does not own space segment of any sort, they have to procure it somewhere. Right now, they lease capacity on a number of satellites. They offer up to 2 Mbps service to their SAIC customer over this space segment. When Astrolink comes along, they will have users who will demand the increased speeds of the Astrolink equipment, and will be able to offer that service. If a customer does not demand 100 Mbps download speeds, then perhaps WildBlue will suit their needs, and ViaSat would be more than happy to service them on that system(that is, if they get that contract). Perhaps another owner of space segment will contract with ViaSat to produce a terminal with different capabilities, which allows ViaSat to provide other services to its customers. It's synergy, not competition. They will compete with Spaceway and Starband, while providing ammo and business for their own allies. I think it is a neat way of doing business.
