Michael,

I read Dostoevsky and Tolstoy in college and went nuts. I was seriously thinking about becoming a Russian literature professor. Only one little problem: I didn't know how to read Russian. Both of my Russian professors were graduates of the Monterrey Institute and both said that in every way the education there was better than at any university in North America.

It is one of my regrets that I never learned Russian well enough to read the classics in Russian.

My two profs were stationed in Germany (pre-Vietnam) and their stories resemble Sgt. Bilko more than Oliver Stone <g>.
