"as I already said once, Jerry is not my favorite exec in the world but you have to give him a credit for recent amd success. After all, amd is competing against giant intel with virtually unlimited funds.
Grove, Barret and Otellini never had to manage in the competitive environment"

I'm not sure that is a real fair assessment. Managing these 2 companies has required a very different skillset and approach. I agree with you that Sanders has done a good job recently and deserves the credit for AMD's turnaround. AMD has had to maintain a laserbeam focus over the last 20 mos or so...this was key not only to success but survival and they have done well to right the ship.

In Intel's case they have had to make difficult decisions that are focused on the long-term. It is essential that they look to diversify into fast growing market segments in order to create shareholder value well into the future as the growth rate in their core market declines. All the while using their market position and financial resources in incubation investments that add to their value chain in the future. Not an easy task.

We will have a better idea in 2-4 years how successful INTC current management team has been.
