Can we apply some collective brain power to the SAWS's orders?

"ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2000--Sawtek Inc. (Nasdaq:SAWS) announced today that it has received one of its largest orders for CDMA base station filters in the company's history. The order, from one of the world's leading manufacturers of infrastructure equipment, will begin shipments in the current quarter and will continue through June 2001. It represents the first significant order for CDMA base station filters to be used in the Chinese telecommunications market."

"ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2000--Sawtek Inc. (Nasdaq:SAWS) announced today it has received its second significant CDMA base station filter order for the Chinese telecommunications market. The order, from a domestic Chinese manufacturer and new customer, is the first of an expected series of orders scheduled to begin shipment in the fiscal quarter ended March 31, 2001.

Gary A. Monetti, Chief Executive Officer, stated, "The continued strength in our base station business is part of our strategic initiative to dominate our core markets. Sawtek is excited about this new customer and the vast opportunities that the Chinese telecommunications market represents for both GSM and CDMA base stations and handsets."

First, it seems that two distinct customers are involved. Would two companies be building the same network? Or is more then one network being built? Also, which companies are ordering from SAWS?

Second, shipments on the first order ("from one of the world's leading manufacturers of infrastructure equipment") began during this quarter (October - December) and continue until June 2001. This implies that that network will be operational by June 2001. The shipments for the second order (from a Chinese company) will begin in the January - March 2001 quarter and follow-up orders are expected. How fast can a CDMA network be built? Any reasonable speculation as to the size of the buildout(s)? Can we overlay these orders with the orders for CDMA phones for the chinese market which a Korean company reported last week (i think that is was reported to be 15 million [i initally thought it was a typo for 1.5 million]) to come up with a number?

Third, how long would it take for the new network(s) to show up on Q's bottom line? Or, alternatively, when would chip sales for the handsets go out the door? (Even if q doesnt announce the sale, it has periodically announced milestones in its chip shipments so we may expect that type of PR.)

Fourth, when will the market pick up on this news? <g> [One can only hope!]
