Jerry, I think Maria handled that one responsibly. She made it clear that the news was unconfirmed and that neither company had responded, she named the source of the rumour, and the rumour was already moving the stock.

I ignore all the short term stuff, so I don't care one way or the other. But if I were a trader and owned Rambus, I would much prefer to know why my stock was down 4 bucks than to stare at the tape and wonder why. As it was, anybody who heard her story and acted quickly was able to get out well above the lows. Then, once Intel's clarification was announced, everyone was able to decide if they wanted to get back in. As for the long termers, what difference does it make? (Although if I were a long term holder of Rambus I would be studying the situation carefully and wouldn't dismiss the story out of hand, even after Intel's semi denial).
