Yep, that is me.
Unlike a lot of About.com guides, I haven't given up my day job yet (nor would I want to even if I could), but covering minor league ball for them is a blast. Without a doubt, the most enjoyable thing I've ever done (well, except for chasing skirts in college, but I didn't get paid to do that, hehe). I get paid to fly around the U.S. and watch baseball on weekends. And meet guys who were my heros growing up--last Spring Training I got to meet and hang out with George Brett and Negro League great Buck O'Neil one afternoon at a Royals' minor league scrimmage; the next day it was Tommy Lasorda in Vero Beach. For a baseball nut like myself, I couldn't believe I was getting paid to do that.
And the most rewarding part of it is hearing from the parents of the players I write about. Most of these guys don't get any ink until they make it to the majors, and they usually play across the country from where their folks live, so they get a big kick out of seeing their sons' photos on the site. Especially the kids from the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. It's a lot of fun hearing from them...after awhile, a lot of the parents make you feel like you're a part of their family. Pretty neat stuff.
