Bush Visiting Traditionally Democratic Minnesota
WIRE:11/01/2000 05:39:00 ET

SEATTLE, Wash. (Reuters) - In an
unusual twist to a close presidential race,
Republican George W. Bush will
campaign in Minnesota on Wednesday --
a state that has not gone Republican in
28 years. Not since Richard Nixon"s
1972 landslide has Minnesota voted
Republican in a presidential election. But
the polls are close this year and the Bush
campaign believes it has a shot at the state"s 10 electoral
votes. "If you had asked me a year and a half ago if we"d
be going to Minnesota in the last week of the campaign, I
probably would have looked at you as if you were crazy,"
said Karen Hughes, Bush"s communications director.
