Mucho Maas, RE: Perhaps CSCO will go up, or tread water for a number of years. That means dead money for a long, but it is dead money to a short, too (except for call sellers).

Note that a short seller gets interest on the proceeds of a short sale, so the money isn't completely dead.

Not a huge number, for sure, but getting interest on money you didn't have makes a difference. To take an extreme example, in the late 70's and early 80's it made a big difference.
