Samsung and Sprint PCS Create An Uproar With Innovative Wireless Phone
MP3 Capable Phone Gives Consumers a Four-in-One Dual-Band/Dual-Mode Handset
DALLAS, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Industry-leaders Samsung Telecommunications America (STA) and Sprint PCS (NYSE: PCS - news) have once again raised the standard for wireless digital technology with the introduction of the Samsung Uproar(TM). As the world's first wireless phone with downloadable music capabilities built directly into the handset, the Uproar allows consumers to download MP3 files from their computer directly onto the handset. The phone will be available to customers nationwide at local Sprint Stores and other retailers in the Sprint PCS nationwide wireless network.
Formally called the SPH-M100, the Uproar combines the latest in music technology with advanced features offered through Samsung and Sprint PCS to create a four-in-one wireless phone. Not only does the Uproar allow users to download virtually any file in MP3 format, the phone also serves as an Internet portal and personal organizer.
While the Uproar's music player is active, customers hear a beep to alert them of an incoming call. The Uproar's built-in Flash Memory holds more than an hour of CD quality music that can be heard through a headset remote that comes packaged with the phone.
As a Web-enabled phone, the Uproar also allows users to browse the Internet while listening to their favorite digital music files or audio books. Uproar users can send and retrieve e-mails directly from the handset with Phone.com's UP Browser 3.1.
``Consumers with hectic work schedules and busy social lives want a single electronic device that serves multiple purposes,'' said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president of sales and marketing for wireless terminals, STA. ``With its downloadable music capabilities built directly into the handset, the Uproar fuses the industry's most advanced technology to create the ultimate wireless accessory.''
The Uproar also comes standard with Short Message Service, built-in organizer that allows users to input to-do-lists as well as store important dates and set appointments, voice-activated dialing, bilingual capabilities and a voice memo option. The T9 text input software allows the user to save time when using the organizer by serving as a predictive speller.
``With this Sprint PCS phone, our customers can now enjoy CD-quality music and have clear calls with the latest in wireless technology,'' said Charles Levine, chief operating officer of Sprint PCS. ``The Samsung Uproar will free consumers from having to carry multiple entertainment and communication devices by converging several state-of-the-art technologies into one wireless phone -- another first from Sprint PCS.''
The Uproar includes two battery options, standard lithium ion or extended lithium ion. In the CDMA 1900 MHz mode, the standard battery provides 200 minutes of talk time or 140 hours of standby time. In the AMPS 800 MHz mode, the standard battery provides 60 minutes of talk time or 16 hours of standby time. The battery provides a pure play-time in digital standby of over ten hours (with no calls).
