i have seen a study about a year ago that showed that most mergers do not produce the expected benefits. why the urge to merge continues in light of this is a mystery to some extent.

You don't mean to imply that departing management doesn't receive its expected golden parachute, do you? Or are you saying that golden parachutes have the aerodynamics of lead balloons? -g-
