>>My grandparents, my parents, and now me are being served(victimised???) by this program.<<
jhp, if you received more than you put in then you have a lot of nerve calling other folks "greedy."
>>You guys want to screw up a system that works very well for your selfish reasons.<<
jhp, i can only speak for myself. i don't know how you reach this conclusion wrt me. i've stated i would support a program that merely improved the ethics of the system and not my financial position. it is unethical to take from $6.50 / hr joe and pay $50 billion bill gates. unethical. unethical. ss s/b insurance for those who might have a need, not a bloated entitlement program.
you seem to care about your family more than the millions of children in poverty who would have a little more food on the table if they weren't supporting rich elderly americans.
who's being selfish?
i plan on being in the group that would pay more ss tax. principle, not politics and familial enrichment. greedy? keeping a guy making $6.50/hr forking over $$$ to bill gates is greedy?
i was fortunate to have many of the opportunities i've had and don't mind supporting good people who didn't. not just w/ money, but with time, knowledge, direction and encouragement.
i make a good living and i drive cars worth $2000-$2500... put together. i'm in my mid 30s. i manage kids who make about 1/4 what i do and they drive cars costing 20 times as much! who is being greedy? is your car worth more than $1k? why does a greedy guy drive a $1k car when he can afford much more (some would call me cheap, but is another story! ok, my wife does call me cheap! ;-)? i've had more than a few friends go through 4 - 5 new cars in the time i've had my car (bought used, btw!).
guess why they'll need ss when they are older? they can't control their need to consume NOW. they don't save. they don't take responsibility for their lives and want someone else to do it for them.
i'd support financial planning throughout school in a heartbeat. we are cheating our nation by not having it in at almost every grade level.
i limit my intake now and save for the future when i can't work. why? so some dude in poverty doesn't have to support me! who's selfish?
before making personal attacks on people's values you ought to make sure you are really standing on high ground and not shifting sand.
this isn't political w/ me. i think dubya's plan is crap, too.
the program needs to be changed from pyramid entitlement scheme to poverty insurance for the elderly and those disabled.
the costs would drop for the poorest americans. the wealthy would pay a higher % relative to the poor (not the case now) and those in need would be served. win, win, win, except for the politicians.
neither candidate has the courage to make the system right. |
