I wish I had the same optimism as he did. I did when I was about 12. I'm much more of a realist now.

I used to bet my stepfather straight up every week. He took who ever was playing the Eagles. Straight up.....I received a $1 for an Eagles win; I shined his shoes if they lost.

I shined a lot of shoes during those years (Early 70's)
The Eagles were awful but I was convinced they had a chance every week.
