I would have to disagree even about the last thirty years, but do appreciate your almost admitting that the prior 200 years were impossible.
Women were only beginning to compete in 1970 and still had a long way to go. It has been a tough battle to get even a small percentage of upper level positions, to become partners in major firms, to have men admit that a woman is as capable and bright as a man. Some still refuse to do so.

Think how often terms like "ballbuster" and "dyke" get thrown at women who are assertive and dominant. For instance, your insults increased toward X significantly when you learned she was female- you began judging her far more harshly and you completely dropped any appearance of reason. I'm not sure why-- but as I read, I sure noticed it.

We will someday see a woman president, I'm sure. But the belief that women are inferior is still evident in so many ways and places. I don't think it's intentional either; I think it's the vestiges of all those years where we were considered property.

Do you remember how awful people thought the early feminists were? The terrible things that were said about them? It must have taken such guts, so much anger to do what they did. Now we have Hillary who, while certainly not my favorite person (a gracious understatement) is certainly showing the "care" and "desire" to go all the way you are calling for. Maybe it will take that kind of extreme to move to the next level.
