Hi Charles,

No, the translation is a more co-operative and bi-partisan approach to governance will promote prosperity.

Example: Hollywood

Gore: (paraphrase) We'll give them (Hollywood) 6 months to clean up their act or face new laws (more regulation) and an investigation by the FTC into violation of false advertising.

Bush: (paraphrase) We can't abridge their first amendment rights but we need to promote a family hour on TV and remind the producers of their social responsibilities. I can use the presidency as a bully pulpit to accomplish that.

Xlation: Gore knows he can't pass new laws that even imply a degree of censorship. It won't fly. Everyone knows the FTC is a toothless tiger & a charge of false advertising for promoting R-rated movies to minors is a joke. Gore is just full of hot air & he uses this issue to stir up the pot. Bush is at least realistic about the legalities and will help promote responsible behavior by keeping up the pressure on Hollywood to regulate itself and by reminding parents of their own responsibilities toward their children.

Regardless of where you stand on that particular issue, it should be clear that the styles of the two are completely different. Gore is confrontational and divisive and Bush is co-operative and consensus-oriented.

For my part, I don't want some partisan president "fighting" for what he thinks is right for the country.
