Re: What is it about Rambus' DDR patent that makes you believe they will be rendered invalid?

I don't expect them to be found invalid, rather I expect them to be limited in scope so that they apply to RDRAM but not SDRAM or DDR.

But if some of the patents are held to be controlling over the present implementation of SDRAM and DDR, I think that the industry will do anything that is needed to design around any Rambus patents held applicable to SDRAM or DDR ( or pretty much anything else). Right or wrong, I think that the companies that manufacture RAM believe that they are the victims of a swindle by Rambus and they are bitter about it and they are convinced that working with Rambus is a risk not worth taking. So that the bottom line is that any royalties for Rambus will be short term.

It may be that today's limited stock action reflects the market's judgement that becoming a leper, albeit a leper that has managed to successfully pick a number of pockets recently, isn't going to work out long term. Once you are recognized as a leper, you can't get close enough to anyone to pick their pockets.

It is possible that you might detect a touch of antipathy towards Rambus in my selection of metaphors. :-)

I think that one long term industry change due to Rambus is that millions of engineers are going to wind up spending much more time lawyering and much less time engineering in the future. The result will be a significant slowdown in progress throughout the world. Everything will take longer and cost more. Rambus with its submarine patent tactics is evil in the fullest sense of the word.

Just my opinion and it wouldn't apply to near term trades so you might as well ignore it.
