Doug,

I am right there with you on that aspect of him (public presence). In fact I was once (K6 time frame) in a quarterly communications meeting where Tom McCoy (AMD's lead counsel head lawyer guy) was talking about Jerry and he was saying how Jerry had publicly said something like "If you didn't buy AMD's stock at these levels you were stupid" (paraphrase not quote) and how they all had to tell him later that he just couldn't say things like that. At the time Mr McCoy was saying this in the meeting not to condemn Jerry but to highlight just how cheap they felt the stock was and to bring some humor to the meeting but it is an indication that even AMD executive management is aware of Jerry's public rough edges.

There is a lot of talk about Dell not carrying AMD products because of special deals from Intel but although I won't back this up at all I will say that I have been led to believe and am pretty much convinced by whom I spoke with that the lack of a Dell/AMD offering is more to do with bad blood between Jerry and Michael over testimony made during the Intel/AMD litigation of the K5 days than any Intel inducements. Allegedly Jerry is holding a grudge. Whether you believe this or not it would explain a lot if true and I don't think it would be contrary to Jerry's personality. But consider it unfounded because I am unwilling to back it up.

My point is that I totally agree with you about Jerry's public rough edges and my opinion has been slowly changing as well. I will not be happy to see him go but I will definitely not be as rueful about it as I once would have been.

Regards,

Epinephrine
