That's a misleading caption. It would have been far more appropriate to reference McQuillan's use of Winston Churchill's line, "This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. It is, however, the end of the beginning." (Paraphrased.)

That's a far cry from what the EETimes headline indicates. Maybe Matsumoto didn't hear the entire speech. Or perhaps he's too young to understand the meaning of Churchill's words.

Where he quotes McQuillan saying, ""Probably the odds of a networking chip company having an IPO are 50 to 1," he would have been more honest if he'd have emphasized the context: that there are so many acquisitions, any start-up in this space is likely to be taken out. McQuillan used Broadcom's and PMC-Sierra's acquisitions as an example.

Journalists can skew stories any way they want. And unfortunately they usually get away with it.
