Sorry, but I cannot agree with you.
There are so many lives destroyed by the drug culture.....12 year old girls hooking to feed an addiction, whether inflicted on them by a pimp or by their own foolishness, it's still a horrible situation. Families torn apart by kids doing the unimagineable because of addictions. Suicides (I have first hand experience here) for which there are no words to explain the wasted lives.

Re: Medical use....cannot the active ingredient THC be manufactured and perscribed in an oral medication?

Most conversations on this matter tend to lean toward losing the war on drugs. Perhaps the war isn't actually a war. Perhaps it's more an exercise in liberal tomfoolery. Most tend to feel that drug use is a medical problem and shouldn't be a criminal matter.....I can go along with that, however, I think the trafficers should be penalized. Here we have a group of individuals that are preying on our youth, destroying their futures and in some cases taking there lives.....and only for the easy money (tax free at that).
The idea that a dealer can sell drugs to a child in the schools is not something I can easily put out of mind.
My preference would be to treat drug dealers as the slime they are.....they have no consideration for the lives they willingly destroy so society should have no consideration for them. Bring in harsher penalties against dealers and enforce them. Just think for a minute......these bastards prey on our youth and pocket untold amounts of tax free cash.....if they are ever charged, the taxpayer supplies a legal aid lawyer for them in a lot of cases. In other cases slick lawyers get them off on technicalities. In the meantime, victims are overdosing and committing suicide.
Somehow our society has become so consumed with being caring and compassionate for politically correct reasons, that we have forgotten the victims.
And all the high paid govt employee social worker councellors in the world wont make one bit of difference to one dead victim of an overdose.

In Canada:

In 1995, there were 804 deaths (695 men and 108 women) in Canada attributable to illicit drugs. Suicides (329 deaths) and opiate poisoning (160 deaths) accounted for almost two-thirds of all drug-related deaths. The 804 deaths resulted in 33,669 potential years of life lost. In 1995-96 there were 6,947 hospitalizations attributable to illicit drugs.
