terry, i don't consider it stealing. seriously, i don't mind contributing to those that are less fortunate through state mandated means (i do not like state mandated massive transfer of wealth just "because..."). bottom line, say i make $100k a year and another guy makes makes $12k a year. are the roads worth more to me than him? i say yes. i'd lose $100k w/o them. he'd lose less. ok, a little theoretical. how much is the military worth to each? i'd say the rich get more benefit as they have more to lose - much more. more benefits = more contribution, imho. why am i making $100k a year? the answer is, believe it or not, likely b/c i chose my parents well. if bill gates or steve forbes grew up in south central la they wouldn't have had the same opportunities they had growing up in seattle, attending private school financed by a pair of lawyer parents or being the son of mr forbes. imho, good fortune and luck comes with responsibility. i don't want to live in a community that looks like a third world country. true poverty isn't about money. it is a poverty of the mind. you are fortunate for a sound mind that understands financial (and probably many other) issues. not everyone does. not b/c the are bad people. mostly b/c of an experience and environment that they didn't chose.
