X, I recently went into a prison with the Kairos movement. We met with a lot of prisoners. I thought the one common thread was drugs. Both as sellers and addicts. Another interesting thing was a number of young black men said their (usually grandmother and not mother) grandmother had told them if they stayed on the street they would either end up dead or in jail. They said they sure wished they would have listened but didn't think they would be caught. (that is the essence of the message from many) So, there is no father figure, mom is also either working two jobs or on drugs, and grandma is trying to raise mom's kids. Sometimes mom is also in jail, too. These kids really don't have a chance because they are in a terrible environment, no role models and no accountability or discipline, until that door clangs shut.
