It looks like the Telecom Act has failed miserably in conventional services - where we had a monopoly in local and competition in LD, we will end up with a regional monopoly in local and LD. Also, it seems at this point that consumer broadband may slow. ATHM on its own will struggle more with deployment costs and XDSL without independent, financially strong data CLECs may slow - RBOCs have little competitive pressure here now and may slow it down while they build their own data networks. Hopefully profits through deployment of XDSL in a foreign jurisdiction will spur RBOCs. This is depressing!
