Ted: "His prospects are getting slimmer and slimmer"

Why do you say that? I just had a newsflash go across my computer last night that Gore's support was firming up in the key electoral states he needs if he is going to win this race.

I think your electorate is so volatile right now anything could happen.. I wouldnt let a CNN poll make me think different (if thats indeed what you did - CNN's polling btw, has been of the polls the one that has had the biggest leads for Bush.. but also use one of the smaller sampling sizes I've seen - 623-823 or something? Heck.. they poll more ppl then that when they take polls up here in Canada.)

This is one year I would daresay where Bush might have an 8-10% lead in the popular vote and still lose. Then again, this also might be one year where a candidate on the left (as in Nader) siphons enough votes from Gore to give the election to Bush.

PS - FWIW: The latest polls for you (from www.pollingreport.com)
BUSH% GORE% NADER% BUCH-ANAN%
REUTERS/MSNBC 11/1 45 42 5 1
ABC 10/31 49 45 3 -
CBS 10/31 45 45 4 2
CNN/USA/GALLUP 10/31 48 43 3 1
DEM'CRY CORPS 10/31 45 45 5 2
IBD/CSM/TIPP 10/31 47 43 3 1
REUTERS/MSNBC 10/31 46 41 4 1

(Washington Post had Bush up 48-46 on Nov 1)

Most of those polls are within margin of error.. do you see something there that says Al Gore's chances are getting slimmer and slimmer? If anything.. I keep hearing Republicans worried that they'll win the POP Vote % but lose the Presidency (as I said to Jim)

My personal hope? The 2 candidates tie at 269 electoral votes apiece and make the Congress vote for the winner:)NO matter who'd they elect.. more great drama - historic even. History buffs and Political Science ppl like me enjoy that.
