KDDI Merges 7 Cellular Phone Units

November 2, 2000 (TOKYO) -- Seven of the eight cellular phone service firms that were
operated by DDI Corp. merged their operations on Nov. 1 to form a new company named au
Corp.

DDI merged with KDD Corp. and IDO Corp. on Oct. 1, and now operates under the KDDI brand
name.

The integration of the DDI cellular firms, excluding over-the-counter firm Okinawa Cellular
Telephone Co., is expected to enable the new company to reduce operating costs and
expedite decision-making through such streamlining measures as integrating back-office work
and sharing information across these component units.

Moreover, the business integration will allow the new entity to standardize services that vary in
content and quality from region to region.

KDDI will make au Corp. a wholly owned subsidiary at the end of March 2001.
