Happy Memorial Weekend ladies and gentlemen. This thread is as amazing as this stock is. A couple of weeks ago it was so quiet Gus Widmayer proclaimed it dead and announced his "farewell". The last couple of days here looks like the last bar room brawl I was in. It's a good thing you guys don't have nuclear capability. <G> Only kidding, emotion and passion is a good thing IMO and we've certainly seen it here the last couple of days. Long or short I'm glad the thread is alive again.
John how are you buddy ! ! ?? Enjoying your weekend I hope. Hello's to Gerald, Mark Stevenson, Darrell, Gary S. Kitty Cat, Kathy, Wade, Corey, Jas, Druss, Richard M., Wade, Lyle, Dwight, TeDennis, Roger and of course greetings to "The Concubine King of this Galaxy AND recently voted by the National Association of Cocktail Waitresses (NACW) as "Most Likely to Succeed" --- MAD MONK ! ! <G>
OK, couple of quick comments;
Roger, with all due respect to you abilities in stock, your remark about Chiang not being very smart if he sold 1/3 of this valuable technology for only $3.5M tells me you have had little experience with venture capital people or investors in startups. At the time the deal w/Zitel was struck, Nov/1995, the product was still under development and a long way from finished (read the Zitel/MD contract on Edgar). Chiang/Brady worked on it for another year before it was developed to the point that it made sense for Esping/Titow to come on board and it will probably be 3rd or 4th qtr before Zitel sees any financial impact from their investment. In my experience the deal they got and the percentage they gave up is typical of a startup. What you get for the first 49% doesn't matter as long as it's enough to get you going and still leave the principals in control. VC/ private investors NEVER give a startup more money than it takes to execute the business plan. How can they? It hasn't been turned into reality yet. Isn't that what the shorts have been saying all along is the reason Zitel is overvalued?
As long as we're on the subject of Chiang I'd suggest those of you taking shots at this man's ability look beyond the internet or "coffee table" books on the history of the HP calculator as your source of information. I've mentioned having friends who are electronic/software engineers who know Chiang and have referred to him as brilliant. One in particular is now at Kennedy Space Center heading up a design project that NASA offered him. This man is recognized as an expert in microprocessor technology. His programming expertise includes IBM 1130/360/370/4300-FORTRAN IV to name a few. He also holds several patents some of which are for; hearing aid for the handicapped; xerographic printing; digital music synthesizers; electronic power meters, mainframe computer architecture and non-locking vehicle safety brakes. When he uses the word brilliant to describe someone I'm impressed because I consider him brilliant. He's certainly bailed my company out more than once over the last 18 years and IMO is the best I've ever seen. Chiang's the real deal folks. I wouldn't advise betting against him. It's no guarantee the business will be a success but IMO it's the way to bet.
Coopers & Lybrand will be announced as a VAR per my source. Leaving to distance themselves from Zitel as some have suggested is ridiculous. Think about it. Accountants and/or accounting firms are number crunchers, they have no responsibility or liability for what Zitel does or doesn't do. I've heard people mention Be-X as being a rip off and a fraud but I've yet to hear anyone include their accounting firm in that description.
I don't know what Jack King is doing with Zitel but the smartest thing he did IMO was bet on Chiang. Don't know the particulars of this recent placement but the guy isn't out to hurt his company. The jobs on their homepage is heavily weighted towards their core business(and about 10 of them have been filled), not Y2K, perhaps he's got plans for the money to expand that part as well. Wasn't there a recent release about their purchasing $250K in chips ! ! Let me tell you as someone in the electronics industry, that's a LOT of chips, and a LOT of product. Be interesting to extrapolate that number into CASD units and ultimately dollars.
At the risk of being redundant I'm going to repeat statements I've made before basically because some arguments posted here are being repeated. If you look strictly at the facts as we know them you've got to be nuts to be long on Zitel. I've said it, I admit it. Shorts look at the facts. Longs, of which I am obviously one, are betting on something else, the people, the problem, and the potential. Time will tell which one will prevail, but don't knock me for my belief, I certainly don't knock you for yours, and don't try to change my mind. I'm entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. Suggestions of giving up on Zitel/MD are premature as well as annoying. It's my money, you didn't help me make it, don't tell me how to spend it or how to bet it. That right belongs to me. I think you were right for playing this stock short, but I think you're wrong for not allowing for the possibility that they just might come up with the product they say they have.
A lot of things in this world came about because someone bet against the odds and didn't give up, and a lot of things have failed too. What can I tell you, I loved "Rocky" and I LOVE the feeling that goes along with not giving up and accomplishing your goals.
But it seems to me some of you guys are knowledgeable enough to make it on this stock by playing the movement, and good luck to you I hope you do. Make a million. I don't have that knowledge. Wish I did because this is sure the stock for it. I'm in this thing to win, that's my bet. I wish us all good luck, I mean that. I don't want to succeed at anything by hoping for another's failure. On this stock you can make it coming or going, or both. I only know enough to bet one way, long.
That's it. Enjoy your day. It's back to the INDY 500. I used to love watching this baby until I went there 2 years ago. Television does NOT come close to doing this event justice. You can't imagine what 230mph look like that close up. The sound, 14,000 rpm. All those young girls screaming as the pace car takes the field around the track for the start of the race. The balloons, the F-14's, 450,000 people, the excitement, man oh man, there isn't a dry pair of panties in the place. <<GG>>
I'd better calm down. Getting myself excited. Have a great weekend folks.
