I got this in e-mail from a lurker Fyodor:

Joe,

I keep hearing rumors that insist the P6-core will be around, albeit in a
somewhat modified form, for quite some time. Many of these have talked
about a P6-core with integrated memory controller. The core is small enough
that it would be a very good target for it and the performance (esp when
coupled with high fsb and DDR, which is, as far as I'm concerned, a given)
would be very intriguing.

Of course, they still need to ramp it to higher frequencies and Intel folks
seem to clam up when that particular subject comes up. I have heard,
though, that Intel plans on using it (P6 core) as their sole notebook chip
for a very, very long time.

Sincerely,

fyodor
