Same question I had, Tony.

Given that I am a peon, I spoke with the analyst's assistant, not the analyst.

Essentially, that part of the report was based upon the respondent's expectations rather than the current world.

I was directed to a the report pertinent paragraphs:

Every respondent, without one exception, reported that server opertaing systems are now strategic and will remain so one and two years into the future.

"...The results for Windows2000 stand in start contrast to the strength of Solaris and the momentum behind Linux. Respondents expect Windows2000 to lose 3% market share in the next 12 months and a reduction in its strategic importance over the next two years.

"The weakness of Windows2000 and the other major OS's, and the strength of Solaris, explain why IBM, Dell, HP, and others have begun an aggressive Linux-as-OS-of-choice strategy. It does not look like there are many other good options."
