Paul and all, confirmation of AMD's DDR "paper launch," from the AMD Mod Squad:

Message 14713641

Thread: I called Micron and asked about purchase of either the 266 or the 200 fsb MaxXPs, and learned that they are projecting shipping of a 266 system ordered next Mon. (first day they are taking orders) in 42 days, and that either fsb with the 1.2GHz cpu has the same lead time. For the 1GHz 200 fsb model, order today should ship in 28 days. When I inquired the reason for the long lead time on the 266 fsb systems, the rep said "AMD made sort of a paper launch, the chips aren't even on the truck yet". No mention of any MB problem, and I didn't probe for it, since I wanted to hear what their presentation to a normal customer was.

Let's hope Intel has given up on their recent attempts at paper launches when Pentium 4 is released. Already there are signs that P4 will be a traditional "available at release" launch.
