Craig, Jim, Zeev, others...

I still don't understand it.

What does a rinky dink card assembler like Lexar Media have to offer Sony?

Sony can go to practically any street corner and find a company with the know-how to make Memory Stick to their specifications ("wrap flash memory in purple plastic").

If Lexar Media continues to struggle and burn cash at this rate (not profitable until Q4 of 2001) Sony will need to reassess its battle plan. For them to put this much faith in Lexar management without a "Plan B" would be very surprising.

What do the Moshayedi Bros. know about Lexar Media that we don't?
Do you think they have sold off Lexar if they felt the Cirrus Logic
IP was worth keeping? They have done a total "about face" at this point.

Why wouldn't they have at least struck a deal to get access to this IP
instead of turning to Hitachi as a flash and controller supplier
for their other investment, Simple Technology?

Think about it.

Lexar Media offers no expertise in flash memory design or manufacture.
Lexar Media does not have any investments, to my knowledge, in any flash fab.

Lexar has a duty to its shareholders and investors who have the potential
to take a major bath if things continue to go poorly in court.

Sooner or later some major Lexar investor is going to come to their senses and say "enough is enough".
