I'm not sure who you are referring to. :)
But if I may...Let me speak for that person.
All of the recent annoucements have been going Palm's direction. I am extremely enthusiastic about the 1) wireless developments, 2) the DoCoMo annoucement, 3) the IBM alliance news, and 4) the daily annoucements about new future product features.
Being an admitted paranoid investor, however, has allowed me to focus upon the following issues:
1) Let's see the products come into production mode -- so far there is a lot of - all talk and no walk - for a lot of the annoucements. Bring on the goods. I'm tired of the press clippings. Bring some products to market for the holiday season. So far a M100 product has been the only new product offered. In addition, Palm has failed -- to date -- to offer a quality color screen to consumers.
2) The Microsoft O/S still can offer more applications due to its O/S power. The current Palm O/S admittedly has limited power, and can not support the applications, memory, color offerings that the Microsoft O/S can -- at the present time. The current Palm O/S can not match the power. Albeit, Palm is working on improvements -- I'll believe it when I see it. I'm working on becoming a senator -- but don't believe it until you see it.
3) All of the recent news has been positive about Palm. I do not envision Microsoft staying still. I envision 1) an inexpensive Microsoft O/S unit being introduced to take market share (possibly a color and a non-color model), 2) an increased market share of the C/E O/S to be announced, and 3) smaller, and more powerful C/E O/S devices that will continue to improve over time.
Having said these comments, Palm is in the driver's seat. I'm disappointed a new product has not been introduced prior to the holiday season. I love the pure play PDA concept in Palm -- along with its current dominant market share. I do, however, still have concerns until actual products are offered that can perform as the press clippings indicate. |
