Press Release
Kulicke & Soffa Announces Reduced Expectations for the First Fiscal Quarter of 2001

Obviously this release is not particularly a big surprise but it does imply that their business is worsening. First it seems to me that the new fabs should not be coming on line until sometime in 2001. I say that because it was the summer of '99 that we first heard of fab shortages and at the time, the only one under construction was Dresden if I remember correctly.

In addition fabs were starting to undergo upgrading like transistioning to 0.18u in 1999/2000. And now its to 0.13u.
In addition the first real sequential drop in book to bill was September. So I can understand if equipment makers have stopped ramping....but to warn this early in the cycle?

I am bringing this all up because I have to believe that KLIC's warning is more company specific than industry wide.
Does anyone know the company and whether this is a problem mainly confined to KLIC?
