Lehman's Niles said PC stocks are a "nice defensive place to put money to
work." He said most of the PC companies should perform in line with
expectations, perhaps posting an upside in the fourth quarter, and with
their stocks at a "reasonable" value.
David Bailey, an analyst at Gerard Klauer Mattison & Co., said PC demand
isn't as weak as the price of PC stocks had implied. Tech investors are a
little bit more positive about the outlook for demand, he noted.
Intel's comment that demand is on track so far this quarter is an important
statement for the company to make, said Megan Graham-Hackett, an analyst at
S&P Equity Group. Intel wasn't cautious at all and didn't give a "back door"
to retreat from its previous guidance, she said.
