Ted,

<I am bringing this all up because I have to believe that KLIC's warning is more company specific than industry wide.
Does anyone know the company and whether this is a problem mainly confined to KLIC?>

The biggest semiconductors drivers for 2000 and 2001 are PCs and Mobile Phones - in that order.

Mobile Phone consumption targets went down from almost 500Mu to 400-425Mu for 2000 and corresponding reduction in forecast for 2001.

PC Unit forecast has gone down by 2-4 Mu for Q4 and corresponding adjustments are being made for 2001.

So, this is a industry problem and not just KLICs. The question is are the current expectations for KLIC and other players in line with this. I am afraid the answer is "not quite". We may have to go through Q4 for all this to be digested.

Having said that I think what we have now may be a much needed mid-cycle correction. A lot of the hypergrowth may have been driven by the Internet bubble and with the current deflation that is going on we may get back to a more sustainable longer term growth.

Chuck
