where the only real "big box" cluster - a group of 4 UE6500s with 24 processors each - hit 135461 TPM-C, putting them 7th in the top 10 and, in cost per transaction, nearly 5 times the cost of any of the CPQ numbers and 3 times the IBM cost. IBM's S70 was a 12 way - almost a "big box" - and it was also well down in the performance ranking at 110434 and at $122 per transaction, even more expensive than the UE6500.

So it looks like the real story is big box clusters have costs that customers can only dream of paying, and weak performance into the bargain.
