Art is not an investment game.

It is larger than that and more important than that. It is about life, learning, growing, being challenged and being enriched.

Sometimes some people sell some art for more money than they paid for it. That does not make it an investment. I am quite sure that you know that well over 90% of art that even gets sold decreases in value.

To suggest that someone who is perhaps intrigued by Haitian art should reject it because it is too regional is to deny the intrinsic qualities that make Haitian art what it is (and no I don't personally care for Haitian art). People who respond to Haitian art find it magical, mysterious, spiritual, dark, and enriching (some of that can also be said about African art).

You are in the tiny minority that makes art's monetary value more significant than its much more important qualities.

note to Michael Cash: A lot of people get very enthusiastic about Haitian art. My suggestion would be to look at some and see how it feels and if it feels good get a book or two and learn a bit more about it. See where the visual experience takes you - it could take you to naive art, and outsider art and art from the south of the US - you are in charge of your aesthetic - check it out.

MM: I suppose you think George Ohr is too regional too?
