North Siders to send 25 Nader votes to Indiana for Gore votes Friday, November 03, 2000 By Eve Modzelewski, Post-Gazette Staff Writer California may say it's illegal, but there's nothing in Pennsylvania statutes that prohibits vote-swapping, which is good news for members of the Unitarian Universalist Church on the North Side. Twenty-five Ralph Nader supporters at the church plan to trade their votes with Al Gore supporters from a church in Indiana, a state George W. Bush is predicted to carry with ease. That way, the Green Party still gets votes toward the 5 percent needed to receive campaign funds in future elections, and Gore backers in Indiana get their votes cast in a state where they could actually make a difference. "I was one of those people who was really torn, but I didn't feel like I could vote for Nader in a swing state like Pennsylvania," said Kate Patterson Neely.
