| I bought the artist's I mentioned because I like them, not because I believe in any greater hype that exist's arround them. The fact is that their work is investement grade, and collected by museums. I have sold a Halley's to the carnegie, and aldrich museum's. Ie if you like them or not they have a resale value. Frankly I saw some of the work you showed JK and was less then impressed by it. I did tell JK if HE liked it he should buy it, everyones taste is diferent. I did tell him that the resale was questionable, because outside of your gallery the artist's I saw had very few markets. I may have been wrong. As JK friend I simply told him the truth, buy if you like it, but dont confuse it with investement grade art. I will say that if I ever get to Chicago I would love to see the art first hand, I hate looking at pictures of pictures. I dont want to fight with you, but your opinion is based on the fact that you sell is what you like. Therfore you assume everyone should like it as well. Whille if you dont like it nobody, its no good(ie Tomasselli etc). I think that's pretty arogent. I am only saying that people should buy things that move them, but understand the market's in which they are purchasing, so as not to be disapointed should they want to see them. I have so many friends in the 80's sold worthless contemporary garbage and were surprised when I told them their 20,000 purchase was worthless besides its asthetic value to them. There are many people who cant throw away thousands like that. i simply am trying to differentiate investement grade stuff from aesthetic stuff. When I bought my Moriko Mori's and my Miwa Yanagi's I had no idea they would double and triple in value. I bought them because I studied Japenese culture, and these artists represented alot of things that intrigued me. I assumed them as an aesthetic purchase, and got lucky. I am not saying not to do this, just that you should know this and have the right attitude. I am sorry if this offends you. |
