It matters because it isn't an indication of earnings as you implied. I think people generally focus on earnings (or at least the prospect of earnings) when they invest (not to be confused with speculative trading). I haven't looked at the GE numbers, so won't comment except to say that they're in a very different business from Microsoft. JMHO. Charles Tutt (TM)
