True, Raquel. What'll happen is, not because of the drunk driving incident but rather because of Bush's Year 2000 Cover-up, the undecideds will tilt to Gore. The Nader voters, realizing Bush will so easily resort to cover-up, will depart the Nader column and vote for Gore, thereby assuring a Democratic victory.
I wish there were four strong parties (left, left-center, right-center and right), but unfortunately the power is presently trapped in only two of 'em. I think stronger national parties will only come if more and more alternative candidates get elected in state and local elections.
It's my hope that Nader's after-election strategies will take this root of progression as there's no hope he'll win this election, even though lots of folks, myself included, would like to see his agenda blossom sooner rather than later. |
