Sometimes one gets involved in discussions where one finds oneself unintendedly arguing on a topic one has only very limited knowledge of and frankly has not thouht very thoroughly.

How a social system should be designed and how far public care should go and what the dilemmata are is a field where vast research has been done (at least in Europe). There is not need to get emotional on it, because one starts immediately talking BS.

Here's something which might sound new to many as it sounded to me when I heard it first:

The super-efficient economy we have today in the US and e.g. Germany is not possible without a equally more developed social system. The truth is that there is not necessarily a conflict between welfare and income.

Simply put, you cannot work and hold your mom's hand at the same time, right? And the reasons why we don't have the big families anymore is not the socialists but industrialization, which lead to the wealth we had to day as it lead to the need to outsource family functions...

Never mind;-)
