Could someone update me on this iDEN thing? What is its correlation with TDMA? iDEN is a proprietary version of TDMA owned by Motorola. iDEN, GSM and TDMA are all cousins in terms of technology....MOT has the only digital cross technology handset currently available, iDEN/GSM (non-satellite). Also, I dont believe that Nextel uses the normal cellular/PCS bands....it works on some other spectrum block. Not sure what the possabilities are for data...but I think that they are even more limited than TDMA. I dont believe that an upgrade to either GPRS or EDGE would be easy for Nextel. They are almost completely dependent on Motorola to come up with a solution. As to PCS....it fell yesterday because during an analyst conference yesterday, they announced EBDITDA would be $1.6B next year. This is lower than the $2B that analysts were expecting (FWIW....i dont remember the $2B number). Also, they announced that they would do a $3B equity offering sometime next year. He expects an 8x capacity improvement (from current levels) during the next 4 years....
